Over New Year's, sheeba and I were able to more or less finalize the
schedule for the reunion in July. I apologize for the delay in getting this
out, but work is a bit intense for both of us these days, so we'll just have
to get updates out as we can. We should have final figures for dues and the
hotel information out this week as well.

LF+10 Itinerary, Ver. 2.0

Sunday, July 8th, 2007 - Reunion Day
* 1pm - Meet and greet at Earl's
* 3:45pm - Meet in Hotel lobby
* 4:30pm - 5 pin glow bowling, North Shore Bowl
* 7pm - Dinner at Taylor's Crossing Brewpub
* 8:30pm - Blast from the Past Reunion Party & Games Night in the LF Suite

Monday, July 9, 2007 - There Be Monsters at the End of the 'Verse
* 8:30am Up and at 'em mateys. Breakfast is served on the run this morning,
as we don our pirate gear and head north for Horseshoe Bay.
* 10am We partake of the Seaquest Scavenger Hunt. For two and a half hours we
compete as teams, each with our own speedboat, traveling through beautiful
Howe Sound on a hunt for swag and glory. Savvy?
* 1pm Lunch, then time to explore Tortuga, er, Bowen Island's Old Village
in Snug Cove
* 4pm Gather at Mystery H/Q, prepare dinner together
* 5pm Dinner together ensuite
* 6:30pm End of the 'Verse Party, Bowen Island: The date has been set. The
Senior Partners at Wolfram and Hart, working together with a small
consortium of unnamed officials within the U.S. government, are set to bring
about the ultimate apocalypse. Mankind's only hope? A team of experts from a
wide variety of backgrounds gathered together on a remote island. Their
mission: to prevent the extinction of the human race. Or possibly just party
like it's December 21, 2012.
* 9:30pm Wrap it up, clean it up and catch the last ferry back to the
mainland

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - Reality TV is Hell Day
* 9:00am Breakfast in the suite
* 10:00am - 7pm Our slightly mangled version of life as a reality TV
contestant. On camera confessionals? Creative hissy fits? Missed mass transit
connections? What's not to love? No worries. It's just a little friendly competition,
and a chance to see some of the sights Vancouver has to offer. A full day of
adventures, complete with road blocks, detours, and maybe, just maybe, a fast forward or
two. And yes, we'll feed you somewhere along the way.
* 7:15 pm - Relax and unwind over dinner at Steamworks
* 9pm - Awards Ceremony & Multimedia Extravaganza (The winners of the day's
competition receive their "accolades", the annual Buffy OMwF sing-a-long takes place, a
bucket load of top fanvids are shown, and a few other things we have up our
short sleeves occur--in short, stay tuned!).

*Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - ::Sniffle::*
* 10am Farewell Breakfast
* Noon - Self-Guided Sci-Fi Geek Sites Tour (XF, SG, BSG, 4400, and whatever
else we can scrounge up for you to run around a take pictures of between now
and then )
* Any overnight stragglers may want to make a trip to the comedy club
down on Granville Island. And for those who have had their fill of Vancouver's tourist hot spots, consider a trip over to Victoria
via the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.

LF+10: When/Where/What (I refuse to answer the Why ) [Jul. 23rd, 2006|06:19 pm]

[music |Enigma - Gravity of Love]

Solving a murder mystery at the top of "Skyland Mountain". Bowling in the Big Apple. Singing "David Duchovny, why won't you love me?" at the top of our lungs on the DC Metro. Getting lost on the way to Area 51. Being chased off by mounties while filming Baked Potatoes in Vancouver. A baby shower for Mulder & Scully's unborn child in a Vegas hotel suite. A frantic dash across two NY burroughs to retrieve a copy of the XF S7 finale. Hanging with some hilarious and wonderful friends while doing some hilarious and wonderful (if occasionally stupid) stuff.

Next summer marks the 10th anniversary of our first gathering in Vancouver, B.C. A lot has changed since then. Our fandoms flickered, flared and sometimes blew out altogether. The adventures of Mulder and Scully became the adventures of Mulder, Scully, Buffy, Spike, Angel, Cordelia, John, Aeryn, Jack, Sam, Daniel, Mal, Zoe and Wash... You get the picture: we're geeks. And very often 'shippers. But geeks and 'shippers in good company. ;)

A lot has changed in our pesky "real" lives as well. Several folks from our band of buggered saw fit to get married. Sometimes to one another. Babies have been born. There were graduations and celebrations and a couple of scary moments along the way. And very often when those things happened, fellow LF alumns were there.

So, the next Luvfest or Smashedfest, or whatever we want to call it, gives us a chance to do what our 10th high school reunions never could: remember the good times, make some new ones and revel in one another's company without all of the posturing and preening that usually comes with the typical package. And no, you don't have to be an alumn to attend. Hubbies, wives, kids, friends...heck, even strangers who enjoy a good bit of goofiness are all welcome to attend. Most activities will be friendly for all, and you can always skip out on anything that doesn't seem like a fit.

After no small amount of discussion and flip-flopping between options,we've decided to go back to our roots. LF+10 will be held back where it all began: Vancouver, British Columbia. Does it have Yard O'Margarita? No. Does it have a miniature Eiffel Tower, or white tigers, gondolas or dancing fountains? No. But it's apparent that July is the best time of the year for most folks, and the one thing Vegas has that we really *don't* want, is the potential for heat stroke. Spending three days with each other is great. But spending three days huddled in hotel rooms together when we can be *outside* in one of the most beautiful cities in the world together, is just SO much better.

As for when, fast forward a year. We're sticking with the Sunday-Wednesday option, July 15-18, 2007.

For those of you who had your hearts set on Vegas, we're sorry. We love Vegas too. But not when it's 120 degrees. So we've got a compromise. If you simply can't stand the idea of trekking north of the border for LF+10, we're going to have a Vegas mini-con in October 2007. Nothing formal, just a long weekend together in Sin City when the temperatures are cooler and it's possible to wander the strip without being miserable doing it.

So what is the plan for Van? This is the first draft of the itinerary. As always, subject to change, especially with a year to burn.

LF+10 Itinerary, Ver. 1.0

Sunday, July 15th, 2007 - Reunion Day (and someone's birthday, woot!)
* 1pm - Mixer in Hotel Lounge
* 2pm - Meet in Hotel Sylvia lobby, walk to the Aquabus at the foot of Hornby Street
* 2:30pm - Aquabus to Granville Island
* 3:pm - Kick-Off Luncheon on Granville Island
* 5pm - Explore Granville Island, Goofy Photo Ops Ahoy
* 7pm - Back to Hotel
* 8pm - Blast from the Past Reunion Party & Games Night in the LF Suite

Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - The Amazing Race - Wacko LF Edition Day
* 9-10:30am Breakfast In Suite
* 10:30am - Our slightly mangled version of The Amazing Race kicks off in the suite. Wear comfy clothes and broken-in shoes. We won't make you eat bugs or shave your head, but that's all we can promise. Just kidding. Mostly. It's just a little friendly competition, and a chance to see some of the sights Vancouver has to offer. A full day of adventures, complete with road blocks, detours, and maybe, just maybe, a fast forward or two.
* 6pm - Dinner

Songs in the Key of XFR [Dec. 28th, 2005|10:47 pm]
LF + 10: Back to Vancouver

anirt
Cross-posted in my journal, and here just to say howdy! in case some of you won't catch this on my LJ.

Per ursamajor's request, I have typed up the songs on Songs in the Key of XFR, Vol. 1, a mix tape produced for LuvFest 98 in Vancouver. I'm posting publicly because I thought some of you might enjoy reminiscing or want to recreate your own tapes on CD or even mp3 player, which have quite likely worn out by now.

I listened to it today to check on some of the artists, and I have to say the mix has held up well for listening. I can't say I felt particularly compelled to skip any of the songs.

Key:
song title [album or artist] (episode) editorial comments

Songs in the Key of XFR, vol. 1

Side 1
The X-Files Main Theme
Unmarked Helicopters [SITKOX] (Tempus Fugit/Max)
Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves [Cher] (Post-Modern Prometheus)
Joy to the World [3 Dog Night] (Detour)
If you think of the Xmas song, you really did not watch enough XF.
Theme from Shaft (Bad Blood)
Red Right Hand [SITKOX] (Ascension)
Twilight Time [The Platters] (Kill Switch)
Theme from the Magician (Little Green Men)
Wonderful, Wonderful [Johnny Mathis] (Home)
Who's the sicker bastard? Morgan and Wong for writing that episode or Snow for putting in this song?
Walking in Memphis [Cher] (PMP)
Sabre Dance (Syzygy)
All Along the Watch Tower [Jimi Hendrix] (Beyond the Sea)
Chantilly Lace [Big Bopper] (Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose)
Theme from Star Wars (Small Potatoes) "Did he have a lightsaber?"
Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted [Partridge Family] (Never Again)

Side 2
All Over You [Live] (Syzygy)
Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 (LGM)
Beyond the Sea [Bobby Darin] (Beyond the Sea)
The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine [Cher] (PMP)
Misty [Johnny Mathis] (Pusher)
[Ain't It Funny How Time Slips Away] Al Green Song (Small Potatoes)
Frenzy [SITKOX] (Humbug)
Purple Rain [Prince] (El Mundo Gira) "Great album, deeply flawed movie episode"
Hey Man Nice Shot [Filter] (DPO)
Trust in Me {Etta James} (LuvFest T-Shirt)

The first Google hit for "lyrics "ain't it funny how time slips away"" was a fan soundtrack site:
http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/x-filesepisodes/aintitfunnyhowtimeslipsaway.htm

Twilight Time alone made me want to dig out my Kill Switch tape, but not quite enough to go in the cold basement to get it.

Wicked! (a.ka. Hey, a post!!) [Apr. 16th, 2005|09:46 pm]

[music |No Good Deed, Wicked orig. broadway soundtrack]

I saw the touring production of this show last Wednesday night and it was excellent. Any of you guys that are going to New York, DO NOT pass up the chance to see this, it rocks. (I am hoping to catch part of the weekend with you guys in NYC, but I seriously doubt I will be able to be there on the Monday so I will miss seeing it with you. *sniff*)

I posted this bit on my LJ and thought I'd X-post it here:

"Anywho, I am now totally in love with "No Good Deed" from Wicked. But MAN, I wish I had a recording of Stephanie J. Block singing it. Idina Menzel is excellent, but Stephanie is fucking *amazing*, both in the role, and in the power and passion of her singing voice.

I loved Wicked, and if I had any quibble whatsoever, it was that I thought the score was just a bit weak. Not a LOT weak, mind you, but it was very reminiscent of Into The Woods and it seemed like I'd heard most of the songs before, though I never had. But there are two or three songs that gave me chills and this was one of them.

As far as the acting goes, the cast is spectacular, but Stephanie (Elphaba, aka The Wicked Witch of the West-to-be) kicks ass. Kendra Kessebaum (Glinda) was also very good (and was I surprised to see Carol Kane, I hadn't even known she was in this show!) but to me, Stephanie stole it.</i>

[music |Muppets - Swedish Chef Song :)]

A year seems like plenty of time to plan a small gathering of friends, n'est-ce pas? It's prolly too long actually, but I for one am in need of a plan to plot!

We've settled on the where. Now we just have to settle on the when!
